The Challenge
It’s not clever, it’s not safe, you might not finish but it is the greatest adventure on the planet and it’s ready and waiting to drop you off a cliff of adventure. You’re sweating profusely. You’re 100 miles from anything resembling a building. All around you is endless wilderness. Your rally car has only 3 wheels left and the steering wheel just came off in your hands. Before you is 1000 more miles of off road that would make a Land Rover shit itself, and you forgot to pack any tools or a map. This is the moment you know you are on the Mongol Rally.
When we read these words on the website of The Adventurists it was clear: Not without us! Eagerly anticipating the unforeseen we officially registered as the team “The Baatarnators” for the Mongol Rally 2014 starting on July 19th, 2014 (in -334 days). We have months of planning head of us, and will be off to our 13.000 km long journey to the capital Ulaanbaatar in Summer 2014.
For newbies and those who forcefully do not want to understand what is happening here, the Adventurists produced a small introduction video to guide you through all the hard rules of the Mongol Rally 2014:
-
Find a few like-minded people that have nothing better to do in the summer of 2014.
-
A car with a maximum of 1.2 liters displacement, which even your grandmother would be ashamed of.
-
Drive it to Ulaanbataar, capital of Mongolia.
Unfortunately, the organizers only provide two things: A party to the start off the rally, and a welcome drink at the finish line in Ulaanbaatar. There is no route, no help on the go and no escort. Only the team, the car and the adventure! Here is the official instructional video by the Adventurists:
2014 will be the the eleventh edition of the Mongol Rally, and therefore something special (not only because we are in as well). After several years with the "the-car-may-only-be-10-years-old-"rule older cars are allowed again, making the search for a suitable rally car considerably easier.
Not everything in the Mongol Rally revolves around adventures and mishaps in the wilderness: As every year, the participants of the Mongol Rally collect donations for a good cause! 2014, the teams support the organization Cool Earth, which fights for the preservation of the rainforest in the Amazon region. We as the Baatarnators also want to make our contribution and are therefore looking for sponsors that do not only support us as a team, but Cool Earth with us as well.

We must save every rainforest in the world so future generations have somehwere to get stuck & lost.
