The Car
The big question: Which 300-hp all-wheel-Rally-monster to take on a journey crossing mountain passes and deserts one third of the circumference of the Earth to a country with no real roads?
The Adventurists give answers to parts of this question, and with these answers they destroy virtually all requirements that one has for suitable car for this trip. The teams can choose between two categories of vehicles:
-
Either a motorcicle with a maximum of 125cc,
-
or a car with maximum 1.2 liters engine displacement. The official wording is "a 1-liter-ish car", but is is rounded up for our car-buying convenience to 1.2 liters, although rumors say that you will be struck by evil looks at the starting line if you overstep the magical 1.0-liter displacement rule.
-
An exception is made for two-or more-wheeled vehicles that meet the "humor requirements" of the organizers. Examples such as fire trucks, school buses or old London taxis have been seen at the starting line in the last years.
Searching for a suitable car is still work-in-prgress. It probably
will take a lot of
tips, hints and
help to fill in the picture
above with color.
We found her!
Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm proud to introduce: ”Bruno“, powered by Ambros Automobile!
Bruno is a darkblue Fiat Stilo, was built 13 years ago, and will propell us to Ulaanbaatar with a very powerful 1.2L-80hp-engine. We are very looking forward to some adventurous hours in this, as some say, mix between horse and tank! Our personal car-DJ Marco is already planning for adding a travel-stereo to the car, Patrick is getting familiar with the car-instructions and Dominik is trying hard to make Bruno a real Rally-Car!
If you have repair tips, design suggestions, experience with a horse-tank like Bruno, or even some tools or spare parts that you want to share with us please do not let yourself be put off by these pictures of rally cars from the last few years and get in touch with us:

Here are a few examples from the "exotic"-categoryto illustrate the spirit of the Mongol Rally (yes, these brave adventurers took part with these vehicles and drove them to Ulaanbaatar):
